Community Design Lab
Our Mission + Method
The Community Design Lab is a mobile, nature-inspired and digitally enabled studio, bringing iPads, design tools, and traditional art-making materials into Maryland schools, public spaces, and community events. Our programs use a flexible, community-centered model to bring people together, expand access, and build creative confidence.
Our work centers on three tracks:
Creative Mischief for children (ages 6-12yrs old) ,
Design+Build for teens (ages 13-19yrs old),
and Second Bloom for adults and seniors.
Together, these workshops make design accessible, spark civic spirit, and strengthen local stewardship. Across these programs, we now serve more than three hundred students, families, and community members each year.

Through a combination of registered events and pop-up workshops, our community-based opportunities are designed to meet the public where they are an increase capacity for nature-based healing and environmental education.
Pop-up Workshops
We come to you! Our pop-up workshop series is grounded in nature as a shared point of connection. Each experience is designed to be:
low-barrier,
designed for public spaces,
adaptable for different audiences and schedules,
and readily equipped with materials, setup, and facilitation!
At these pop-ups, participants are only asked to bring their curiosity, creativity, and conversation.
